Sunday Adventures

So last Sunday we decided to go on a family bike ride and about 1/2 way into our bike ride Collin who was way ahead of the rest of us stops and starts yelling something about birds. Well as we get closer to him we realize he is telling us that there are baby birds stuck down in the storm drain. Collin was freaking out and all worried about the birds so Scott being the awesome dad that he is rode his bike home, got a ladder and some buckets and came back to rescue the birds. There were 10 baby birds at the bottom, but as Scott was trying to get the ladder down the storm drain he smooshed one of the baby birds and killed it so we were down to 9. After we got the birds out we decided since their mom wasn't around they probably needed some water so Scott put all 9 birds in the bucket with a tiny bit of water and almost instantly 5 of them drown. So we hurried and dumped the water out and took them home to research out what kind of birds these might be. We discovered that they were quail and that if you ever rescue baby quail you should NOT give them water. So we took the 4 that were left back over to the area we found them and let them out into a field. Within about 30 seconds 2 grown quail came running along and the little babies followed them away. Needless to say it was quite an entertaining Sunday afternoon. Our boys were hoping for 10 baby bird pets.:)
